Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books!

What started as one elementary student wishing for a book has become a signature project for Spokane Valley Rotary.  In 2010, our club made a point of giving a free book to every student in the two local elementary schools whose students were most in need.  This past year, the number of schools has risen to six:  Trent, Trentwood, Broadway, Opportunity, Ness and Orchard Center.

Nearly 2600 students each received a free book!  The children's excitement was overwhelming, as was that of the Rotary members who went out to distribute the books, and in many cases to read to our kids!

This program is run in conjunction with "Read Across America" and with Dr. Seuss’s Birthday.  It is the ultimate goal of our Rotary Club to reach every child in every elementary school in Spokane Valley.
