We are a community service organization, affiliated with Rotary International,
and in service to the Spokane Valley Community.

Mission

The mission of the Greater Spokane Valley Rotary Club is to offer every Club member an opportunity to be involved to the degree they can in providing excellence in service to Rotary and our community.

Description

Our focus is primarily on the youth of the Valley and also on the elderly. We provide financial support to organizations that serve the youth, such as the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, and Daybreak. For the elderly of the Valley community, financial support is provided to Meals on Wheels and Spokane Valley Partners. We also provide direct, hands-on support to those in need, certainly to youth and elderly, but also to those who are simply underserved. Important by-products of the service projects and our weekly meetings are the abiding friendships that are reached among our members. The development of acquaintance has become an opportunity for service. The application of the ideal of service becomes the hallmark of the Rotarian in his/her personal, business, and community life.

Basic Info

Founded in 1947, our club won the (Rotary International) Presidential Citation award for the year 2004-2005.

Projects / Events:

The Upward Bound Program: The mentoring of at-risk students identified as such in the seventh or eighth grades and financial support for those who graduate from high school and enter post-secondary educational institutions.
Financial Scholarships: We provide scholarships to selected highly successful high school graduates who enter college or technical institutions.
Breakfast with Santa: An annual holiday event provided for the youth of the Spokane Valley.
Books for Kids: Individual books provided for elementary school children to encourage our youth to become excited about reading. Club members regularly read to the students in the classroom often during Dr. Seuss' Read Across America national event.
Celebration of Lights: Tree lighting ceremony with the City of Spokane Valley. Enjoy carols, sip on complimentary cocoa, and listen as the City Council reads 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. Join Santa and the Greater Spokane Valley Rotary Club and celebrate this special evening.
A Challenge Series Race (aka Soap Box Derby): Soap Box Derby type race for Special Needs Kids (Racers) that are paired up with a Driver for the time of their life! Community sponsors help make this event possible!
Corn Booth at the Spokane Interstate Fair: Rotarians serve up corn on the cob, baked potatoes, and smoked turkey legs at the fair. Proceeds support our various fundraisers. Each year the Committee proposes new organizations. Check with our club about supporting your favorite non-profit!
