GSVR Rotarian of the Year Award

The Ronald G. Schoenberger Rotarian of the Year Award was given to Ron by me (Brent Wise) for the 2013/2014 Rotary Year and is his namesake to the Club as it was the 1st time it was awarded. Ron is Spokane East Rotary/Greater Spokane Valley and rightly so the Rotarian of the Year award was named after him, this award is separate to the Paul Harris Award as it is only for Spokane East Rotarians/Greater Spokane Valley members who meet the following criteria Embodies the Spirit of a True Rotarian:

  • A True Rotarian Award is presented to a Rotarian of Spokane East who demonstrates through his/her Rotary and community life that he/she lives by the four-way test and provides 'Service Above Self'.
  • The recipient is chosen by the President with guidance from past presidents and board of directors of Spokane East.
  • The “True Rotarian” has a Rotary attitude. This is a person who conducts him/herself following the 4-way Test at all times, who is humble, does not flatter wealth or boast of his/her own possessions or achievements.
  • This Rotarian speaks with frankness yet always with sincerity and sympathy. After having communicated his/her differences, he/she supports the activities of others even if the direction may not parallel with their thinking.
  • Deeds follow words, and this Rotarian thinks of the rights and feelings of others. This Rotarian always appears well in any company and is a person whose honor is sacred.
  • The “True Rotarian” is the foundation of Rotary – always there, contributing to the current Rotary activity and by any Rotarian’s measure, is the life blood of Rotary.

Rotary year and the reason Ronald G Schoenberger's name is on the award is because it was the first time it was awarded. This award is separate to the Paul Harris Award as it is only for Spokane East [Greater Spokane Valley Rotarians. To receive this award the recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • He/she must embody the Spirit of a True Rotarian
  • This award is presented to a Rotarian of
  • Spokane East/Greater Spokane Valley who
  • demonstrates his/her positive contributions within his/her community.
  • That he/she lives by the Four Way Test and demonstrates "Service Above Self"
  • The "True Rotarian" has a Rotary attitude. This is the person who conducts him/herself as someone who is humble, does not flatter wealth or boast of his/her own possessions or achievements.

All future recipients are chosen by all past Rotarian of the Year Award recipients. The immediate past chairperson/chairpersons will work with all the past recipients to choose the next recipient or recipients. Each year the recipient/s will be presented an acknowledgement gift as well he/her name will be added to the plaque.
